2017 Accomplishments

Thanks to the generous support of our donor-friends and in partnership with Vernazzans, Save Vernazza continues in our mission to rebuild, restore and preserve Vernazza’s town and territory. Together we can make a difference.

Our 2017 Accomplishments include:

Aria Festival: “Musica Nuda” and other surprises in the Cinque Terre village of Vernazza

Friday, December 22nd

ariaAria Festival returns to Vernazza, the event dedicated to live shows in public, unconventional spaces that the village of the Cinque Terre has been hosting for several years. For this edition, the Festival hosts the concert of Musica Nuda – a musical project by Petra Magoni and Ferruccio Spinetti – a refined and intense show inside the former Chiesa dei Frati.

The 2017 edition is organized by Save Vernazza Onlus, in collaboration with Associazione Culturale ARIA, with the support of the Fondazione Carispezia, the Town of Vernazza and the Cinque Terre National Park.  All proceeds will go to rebuild, restore and preserve Vernazza’s town and territory.

Turisti nei Cian Voluntourism Excursions with Busabout and TreadRight

Save Vernazza’s Turisti nei Cian (Tourists in the Wild) Voluntourism Project has welcomed 1041 participants in 126 excursions since 2013. Save Vernazza connects travelers to SV guides and local farmers to restore vineyards, rebuild stonewalls, and harvest grapes in Vernazza.

Thanks to our partnership with Busabout and TreadRight, we are making a difference in Vernazza’s beautiful, fragile territory, promoting sustainable tourism in the Cinque Terre and helping preserve a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“Had such an amazing experience hiking up the mountain and working on a local farm. Given such a delicious lunch too. Great activity to learn about the area as well :)”

The Renaissance of Vernazza: Fontanavecchia

The Renaissance of Vernazza Project, designed by architects Lord Richard Rogers and Ernesto Bartolini, restores Vernazza’s public spaces with new stone paving, landscape design, street furniture and energy efficient lighting to increase safety, simplicity and beauty for residents and visitors.

A revitalized Piazza Marconi was officially inaugurated on May 25, 2015. The Renaissance of Vernazza Project is a symbol of the extraordinary cooperation and support Vernazza has received from institutions and people all over the world following the October 25, 2011 disaster. Thank you Save Vernazza supporters for joining us to make this dream a reality!

In January 2014, Save Vernazza donated the Executive Project of Phase One, Lot B of the Project to rebuild Fontanavecchia, the area of Vernazza most affected by the flood of 2011.

In December 2017, the Town of Vernazza finally decided to move forward with updating the project. We are hopeful for the project’s completion.
